How it works
How to Calculate Fitment Factor and Revised Basic Pay
The fitment factor is a number that the Pay Commission uses to turn your old basic pay into your new basic pay. You multiply your current basic pay by it. This is also how fitment factor is calculated: the commission divides the new minimum pay by the old minimum pay.
fitment factor = new pay ÷ old pay
Example 1: 8th CPC
Level 1 basic pay is ₹18,000. At a factor of 2.28: 18,000 × 2.28 = ₹41,040.
Example 2: Level 10
Basic pay ₹56,100 at 2.57: 56,100 × 2.57 = ₹1,44,177. Then look for the nearest cell in the pay matrix.
Finding the factor
7th CPC raised minimum pay from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000. 18,000 ÷ 7,000 = 2.57.

Salary after 8th pay commission
How Your Salary Changes After the 8th Pay Commission
Your new basic pay is only the first step. These parts of your salary also change:
- DA: It is expected to start again from 0% on the new basic pay, as it did after the 7th CPC.
- HRA: It is a percentage of basic pay and depends on your city class (X, Y or Z). A higher basic pay raises your HRA in rupees. This calculator uses the 7th CPC starting rates of 24%, 16% and 8% after reset. The 8th CPC rates are not announced yet.
- TA, pension and gratuity: These are linked to pay, so they can rise too.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission?
It is the number that your current basic pay is multiplied by to get your revised basic pay. The 8th CPC fitment factor has not been announced yet. The 7th CPC factor was 2.57.
2. How to calculate fitment factor?
Divide the new pay by the old pay. For example, 7th CPC raised minimum pay from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000, and 18,000 ÷ 7,000 is about 2.57.
3. How is fitment factor calculated for my salary?
Multiply your current basic pay by the fitment factor. At a factor of 2.28, a basic pay of ₹30,000 becomes ₹68,400. Then check the nearest cell in the pay matrix.
4. What will my salary be after the 8th Pay Commission?
Revised basic pay plus DA, HRA and other allowances. DA is expected to reset to 0% on the new basic. Use the calculator above to see an estimated gross salary for your level and city.
5. What is the minimum salary after the 8th CPC?
It is not decided yet. As an estimate, ₹18,000 × 1.92 is ₹34,560, ₹18,000 × 2.28 is ₹41,040, and ₹18,000 × 2.86 is ₹51,480.
6. Is 2.86 the final fitment factor?
No. 2.86 is a figure that employee unions are reported to be asking for. The commission has not announced any factor.
7. Will my DA reset to zero?
DA is expected to be merged into the new basic pay and start again from 0%, as happened with the 7th CPC. The final rule will come in the government order.
8. When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?
The commission has 18 months from November 2025 to submit its report. A revision is expected to apply from 1 January 2026, but payment may happen later with arrears.

Because DA merges into basic pay. At 60% DA, a factor of 2.28 gives a real hike of about 42.5% over basic plus DA, not 128%.
10. Can pensioners use this fitment factor calculator?
Yes, for a rough idea. Enter your basic pension as the basic pay. The final pension revision method has not been announced.
