How it works

How to Use the Denomination Calculator

This denomination calculator has two modes. Use Count Cash when you have the money in front of you. Use Amount to Notes when you know the amount and want to know how many notes and coins it needs. Either way it works as a simple cash calculator, note calculator and money calculator for rupees.

1

Enter the counts

Type how many notes or coins you have, or tap + and −. Press Enter to jump to the next row.

2

Read the total

The total, amount in words, notes and coins update as you type.

3

Check your cash

Add an expected amount to see whether the cash is short or in excess.

4

Print or share

Print a denomination sheet, save it as PDF, copy it or send it on WhatsApp.

Example: count cash

10 notes of ₹500, 5 of ₹100 and 3 coins of ₹10 make ₹5,000 + ₹500 + ₹30 = ₹5,530.

Example: amount to notes

₹12,345 needs 24 notes of ₹500, 1 of ₹200, 1 of ₹100, 2 of ₹20, 1 coin of ₹5. That is 29 pieces.

The formula

Total = (count of ₹500 x 500) + (count of ₹200 x 200) + … + (count of ₹1 x 1). Add every row.

Amount to notes

Choose what you have

Switch a denomination off if you do not have it. The tool then finds the best split with the notes you picked.

Always exact

If an amount cannot be made with your selection, the tool tells you instead of showing a wrong answer.

FAQ

Denomination Calculator FAQs

What is a denomination calculator?

A denomination calculator adds up the value of notes and coins. You enter how many of each denomination you have and it gives the total. This one also works the other way: enter an amount and it shows the fewest notes and coins needed to make it.

How do I use this cash denomination calculator?

Type the number of notes or coins next to each denomination, or tap + and minus. The total and the amount in words update as you type. Add an expected amount if you want to check whether your cash is short or in excess.

Can I use it as a cash calculator, note calculator or money calculator?

Yes. It works as a cash calculator for a shop till, a note calculator for counting bundles and a money calculator for any pile of rupees. It covers all Indian notes and coins from ₹500 down to ₹1.

Does it include the ₹2000 note?

Yes, but it is hidden by default because the ₹2000 note was withdrawn from circulation in May 2023. It is still legal tender, so tick Show ₹2000 note if you still have some.

How does the amount to notes mode work?

Enter a whole rupee amount and choose which notes and coins you have. The calculator finds the split with the fewest pieces. For example, ₹12,345 needs 24 notes of ₹500, one of ₹200, one of ₹100, two of ₹20 and one ₹5 coin.

What if my amount cannot be made with the notes I selected?

The calculator shows a message instead of a wrong answer. For example, ₹700 cannot be made from ₹500 notes alone. Switch on a smaller note or coin, such as ₹100 or ₹1, and try again.

How many notes are in one bundle?

A standard bank bundle has 100 notes. A bundle of ₹500 notes is worth ₹50,000 and a bundle of ₹100 notes is worth ₹10,000. The tool shows the number of full bundles in your count.

Is the ₹10 note counted separately from the ₹10 coin?

Yes. Both are in use, so the counting mode has a row for each. That keeps your notes and coins totals correct. In amount to notes mode, ₹10 is counted as a note.

How do I know if my cash is short or in excess?

Type the amount you expect, such as your register or till total, in the Expected amount box. The result panel then shows Matched, Excess cash or Short cash with the exact difference.

Can I print the denomination sheet for a bank deposit?

Yes. Press Print / PDF to open a clean sheet with each denomination, the total and the amount in words. In the print window you can print it or choose Save as PDF.

Is there a denomination calculator app or download?

No download or app is needed. This denomination calculator works online in your phone or computer browser, and you can add the page to your home screen for quick access.

Does the calculator work for other currencies?

No. This tool is made for Indian rupees (INR) only and uses the Indian number system, with lakh and crore, to show the amount in words.

Is my data saved or sent anywhere?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser. If you press Save count, the count is stored only in your own browser on your device. You can delete it anytime with Clear saved counts.

Is the result accurate?

The tool adds exact whole numbers, so the maths is exact. The total is only as correct as the counts you enter, so count each pile twice and keep damaged or fake notes aside.

This denomination calculator is for counting and information only. It is not affiliated with the Reserve Bank of India. Always verify cash with your bank or a certified cash counter for official records.
